I have to admit that I am a fan of rock-and-roll, and Third Day in particular! There’s something about an upbeat tempo and poignant lyrics that provides more that just good listening – it contains power. I suppose that’s the word that best describes how you feel while listening to ‘Come Together’, the newest musical offering from the above-mentioned band. Music should move and inspire the listener; it should supply an impetus for change in daily living, and this next link (in a chain of impressive recordings) is an excellent addition for a group that has much to offer. Tai Anderson, Brad Avery, David Carr, Mark Lee and Mac Powell make up the talent in Third Day and - as the title song implies – they ‘Come Together’ nicely. Powell’s gritty voice, along with commendable acoustical, southern/folk rock accompaniment, helps provide the unifying sound that has become a trademark of the band. Come Together is rousing, open invitation for believers to put aside petty differences and unify in Christ. Couple that with the driving message of Get On, and you have a powerful combination that effectively identifies with real-life problems in today’s church! With 40 Days you have a heartfelt cry to God of praise for His sustaining and delivering power throughout life’s trials and tests: Show Me Your Glory accurately reflects the Christian’s response to experiencing firsthand that sustaining power, and so in wanting to get to know the Supplier. Anyone who is spiritually aware of the signs will tell you we are living in the last days, and My Heart is a reflection of what we feel when we consider the times we’re experiencing. There is an underlying expectation throughout the song that lifts to the forefront the question of Christ’s soon return. It’s Alright, a well choreographed ballad, continues the CD’s thread-like message of waiting upon the Lord and His timing. And the guys have fun (via Still Listening) with the subject of how we sometimes strain to find God’s direction and guidance. I Got You, with an energetic and punching chorus, is a reminder that if we have nothing else in this life other than the Lord, then He is more than enough! We all sometimes stumble and fall as we live out this life for God, and the resulting guilt and remorse can be a heavy burden to bear. The tenderness of this kind of broken heart is effectively conveyed through the touching melody of I Don’t Know. And in a continuation of this theme of repentance and forgiveness, the addition of When The Rain Comes provides for a gentle and much needed reassurance of divine acceptance. Then, of course, after such a flood of forgiveness and cleansing we can do nothing greater than Sing Praises! The capstone, Nothing Compares, gives the listener a smooth and timeless work in which to offer thanks and praise to the One Who is worthy! As I confessed earlier, I am a fan of the genre of rock-and-roll (and Third Day in particular) supplied by this compilation. I think, though, that after hearing this project you will understand my partiality and agree that ‘Come Together’ would be an excellent addition to anyone’s collection! Mark Stockman
